Slavery, economic and social.

Slavery not only effected, but was the depending factor of southern life. It was the differing factor of social ranks, allowing all whites no matter their own poverty or prosperity level to become socially superior. Slavery also effected the economic prosperity of the south, by allowing the cash flow crops to be farmed. Slaves farmed the cotten, they planted, grew, and picked the cotten. Because of the slaves, over 50% of the United States money gained from exporting was from cotten. So, in effect, the economic and social prosperity of the United States , although not completely morally right, was due in part to the effort and duties of the slaves of the time.
